Key Responsibilities:
- Help create and follow an individualized support plan for each individual including helping them achieve their goals, supporting them in celebrating their culture, traditions, and beliefs, and developing basic life skills like cooking, cleaning, and using money
- May assist individuals with personal care like bathing, grooming, and taking medication
- Assist individuals in keeping their home clean, safe, and comfortable (may include cleaning, shopping, yard work, and snow shoveling)
- Support and advocate for individuals during appointments with professionals like doctors, physiotherapists, and counsellors
- Support inclusion and socialization by taking individuals into the community for activities, appointments, or community events and/or arrange for transportation
- Support individuals in all aspects of safety including crisis prevention and emergency response
- Help individuals manage behavior in a calm, respectful way
- Keep written records and share important information with other employees and families
- Attend staff meetings and required training as needed
What You Need for This Job:
- You must have a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Check (completed within the last 6 months) before you start
- You must be able to obtain Basic First Aid with CPR Level A (within 3 months of employment)
- If you are not a Canadian citizen, you must have a valid work or study permit
- You must be willing to attend 2½ days of Pre-Employment Training
- You need to give us two work-related references
- You must be able to work well independently as well as with a team
What Makes You a Strong Candidate:
- Experience working with people with disabilities
- Experience helping with personal care (like bathing or grooming)
- Experience staying calm and helpful when someone shows challenging behavior
- A driver’s license, a vehicle, and $2 million liability insurance
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A caring and respectful attitude
