Independent Counselling Enterprises will take reasonable and prudent action to prevent and to minimize risks in the workplace. This is done by having written policies, practices and procedures in place, training and educating employees, employing competent supervisors and communicating to employees their responsibilities. The agency is aware of its responsibilities and complies with legislation as outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Workers' Compensation Board (W.C.B.).

In the internal audit conducted in October, 2004, a four (4) percent increase was obtained in result over the external audit performed 14 months previously, to achieve an overall score of 88%. The program thus continues to meet the standard to achieve a Certificate of Recognition (COR) under the Partnerships for Injury Reduction (PIR) program, jointly sponsored by the Worker’s Compensation Board of Alberta and Workplace Health and Safety of the Alberta Government.

The agency has an established Health and Safety Committee in each region that meets on a regular basis. This committee acts as an advisory group and assists in monitoring and maintaining appropriate employee occupational health and safety in the work place.

The employee is responsible for reporting all workplace incidents to their supervisor or the on-call supervisor (if after hours) immediately regardless of the severity. ICE will make suitable, meaningful modified duties available to every injured worker at every post-injury functioning level, on a non-permanent basis. All injured employees are expected to accept suitable modified work unless their doctor indicates otherwise.
